Valley Rattler Railway

Sunshine Coast hotels

Take a step back in time to experience a little locomotive history with a thrilling journey on the Valley Rattler Railway. This steam train trip departs from Gympie Railway Station on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays to take you around the Mary Valley and glimpse some of the beautiful countryside while experiencing a tangible part of Queensland’s pioneering past. Some of the scenery that is included on the Rattler’s journey includes pineapple plantations, local dairies, cattle farms and panoramas extending down the slopes of the Mary Valley and the Mary River.

Along with the regular valley Rattler services there are regular themed train journeys including Romance on the Rails, Wild Wild West, Wizard’s Express, the Teddy Bears’ Picnic and the Elvis Express. Check with the station for details on when the next themed train trip takes place to make your journey even more special. The journey starts from Gympie Station, which is a 1913 construction and chugs 40 km out to Imbil and back. Once you arrive at Imbil you take a break for lunch and revive yourself for the scenic journey back. Watch out if you happen to take the trip on the third Sunday of the month as bushrangers have been known to try and loot a freight of gold being taken by troopers from gold rush Gympie to Imbil.

On Wednesdays and Sundays the journey is a full day departing at 10am and returning to Gympie Station at 3:30pm. On Saturdays you have the option of half day tours departing at 9:30am, 11:30am and 1:45pm.
