Mount Cooroora

Sunshine Coast hotels

Mount Cooroora is a 438m volcanic plug. This dramatic mountain is located in Pomona, off the Bruce Highway about 10km north of the township of Cooroy.

Each year in July, mountain runners from all over the world come to Pomona for the famous 'King of the Mountain Race', to run right up the face of this 438m high volcanic mountain. The day is celebrated with a market and lots for visitors to do.

This popular mountain walk that rises to 439m is steep and difficult. Every July the King of the Mountain challenge takes place and the record is about 20 minutes to the top and back. Allow two hours and that will still be some effort on this steep climb with some loose stones. The car park is located on Mountain Road which is off School Road in the village of Pomona.
