Currimundi

Sunshine Coast hotels

Currimundi is part of the Caloundra Shire Council to the south of the Sunshine Coast and a great holiday choice for affordable beach front accommodation. The great thing about Currimundi is that you have choice with the beach and Currimundi Lake right on your doorstop. If you have children, then Currimundi Lake is an excellent swimming spot with its calm and shallow waters perfect for little ones to bathe in. The Currimundi Conservation Park right next door to the lake is a rare pocket of coastal bushland that has survived development along the coast. It is a relaxing place to stroll amidst the banksias and take in a wide range of local birdlife and enjoy the lookout.

Currimundi is a small little hamlet nestled away in the northern part of Caloundra Shire. It is an aboriginal name that means “place of the flying foxes” and only started to become developed in the 1960s. Prior to the sixties the area was largely used as grazing land and for military practice by the army during World War I. These days the area has a quaint and laid back feel to it with a selection of local shops located just across from the entrance to Currimundi Lake. There is a real spirit of community in this little section of the coast and stay here on holidays is a good choice if you want to be close to the action and amenities, but far enough away to enjoy a “cruisy” break.
